Off the page kaiser raft caravan

I'm writing this on my phone so the pics aren't great but the battery on my camera was flat...(oops) and I have to get this in the mail today. It's my second off the page project and I must say I love doing them. I found it a little tricky, probably because it wasn't square  but I think I did ok.
So this is for my step mother in law who turns 60 next week. For the last 2 yrs they have travelled from Canberra to Townsville with their new caravan to escape the winter and of course to see their very adorable grandchildren. Here is what it ended up looking like.....

ouas- august

Once upon a sketch theme...i'll never forget

this could just be interpreted in so many ways. happy, sad, funny bad moments.
i couldnt think about it too much as then i get overwhelmed with ideas in my head and then never end up making a decision and letting that challenge go for the month.

so for me the best thing is to go with the first thing that comes to mind as then i very rarely struggle with that page. well this page just flowed and im so happy with it.

some of you may know that my aunty and i scrap alot together via sms, as as much as style is different we have alot of similarities. so i did try to put some of them in this page as this page is about her son...my cousin.
the paper is one we both have and love, she uses alot of cog masking and chipboard on her pages due to having 1 loving husband, 4 handsome adult sons, 6 adorable grandsons and 1 angel grandson with an honourable mention of her beautiful grandaughter. she also isnt afraid of using flowers and butterflies on her masculine pages so i too have added some butterflies on mine.

so as i said this page is about my cousin, the eldest of her sons. he was unfortunately killed in a motor bike accident whilst on holiday in NSW with his motorbike group in april 2009.
i was absolutely shocked. i have a few great memories of him and the family all together but really we didnt have alot to do with each other as we lived away when we were kids and even though we returned, when i was a teenager i had moved across the other side of australia which is where i have stayed creating my own family. i was so glad that i had only contacted him via facebook several day prior to wish him and his wife congratulations as they announcement of their 3 month pregnancy after years of struggling. unfortunately, he was never to see his wife with the gorgeous baby belly, feel the kicks for the baby while in her belly or to ever hold his baby in his arms.
this to me is the saddest part!
it just seems so unfair that he was taken so young when he has so much in front of him.
when i had asked my aunty for a photo of him she sent me through heaps of them and i know she could have kept them coming, but i chose the photo (although it wasnt the best one) in which my memory best remembers him with his smile beaming from side to side.
so this is the sketch

and this is my page

with a close up

and to prove i have hidden journalling.

thanks to my aunty and uncle who had approved this blog post to be shown and for all of you who have read my post and especially those who have commented.

scrapfriends sketch - august

i love playing along with sketches, especially ones that i love.
i loved this scrapfriends sketch so much i did not change one thing.
i used that last little bit of paper that i had left over from a page i had just finished so it was perfect to cut up and use in this sketch.

last week i put my babies into bed. they normally go down for a day time sleep at the same time.
when i had asked them to hop into bed my littlest one climbed into his big brothers bed and laid down and closed his eyes. i thought ... why not pat them both at the same time then i will move him. well he fell straight to sleep and my eldest one wasnt far off it. he was determined to have his brother sleep in his bed as they had never done that before so i didnt want to move the little one while the older one was still awake. so i walked out of the room and told him i would come back and check on him in ten minutes. when i went back the older brother was laying on top of his brother. he is a very loving, affectionate and tactile boy so i knew that this was out of love not anything else...but as soon as i took the photo to send to my husband i moved him cos he is heavy!! lol    i just had to scrap it
so here is the sketch.

Let's get shabby #48

this month over at let's get shabby-

Its all about
Foliage greenery …. leaves and plant-form….
So long as its green!
Of course you can add anything else in any type of project you like(as long as its got paper/scrapbooking of sorts in it!)
It’s not about just using the colour green, we need to see your foliage, branches, leaves - greenery

so i had to play along.
as most of you know my husband is in the army and has previously served a few years in recon.
so as part of being in that unit he has a yowie suit.
its like you see in the movies where they have sticks and leaves covering them in their clothes.
the entire suit weighs a tonne due the extra material being sewn onto a set of camouflage clothing already and then a head peice to go with it. but anyway ....
this photo is from about 2 years ago and is of my eldest son (3 at the time).
he is wearing the head piece and laying on the ground in amongst the vine that grew on a pillar at the end of the patio. my husband had been playing with the kids and had made sniper rifles for them out of fisher price trio blocks!! lol
he (my husband) was so proud of himself and the kids had such a great time pretending to be daddy. well now the instructions for the blocks which make cute animals like a crab and a snail or things like robots and boats seem to only make guns, guns and more guns.
my husband showed his collegues the photos on his phone one day and then i get an sms asking what blocks they are and where i got them from. im sorry fisher price!! lol
so here is my page

and a close up
